Cat's Favorite Pasta Sauce

 

1 lb sweet OR hot Italian sausage (I use Butter Patch Hot Italian Sausage) <remove the sausage from its casing>

1 lb ground beef (I use Eubanks or Grateful Harvest Grass Fed)

1/2 cup chopped organic yellow onions

2 cloves organic garlic, chopped

Brown the ground beef, Italian sausage, onions and garlic in a large pot until they start to cook. It takes about 6 to 9 minutes. I use a medium temperature to brown the meat.

Add the following:

1 (28 oz) can organic crushed tomatoes (I use Woodstock Farms w/Basil)

2 (8oz) cans organic tomato sauce (I use Muir Glen)

2 (6oz) cans organic tomato paste (I use Woodstock Farms)

1/2 cup water

Gently stir these into the cooking meat.

Add the following:

2 tablespoons white sugar (or sugar substitute of your choice)

2 teaspoons fresh basil leaves, chopped (or substitute dried basil)

2 tablespoons fresh Italian parsley, chopped (or substitute dried parsley)

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning

1/2 teaspoon ground pepper

 

Cover the pot and let it simmer for at least 1 hr and 30 minutes. I like to let mine simmer for longer, if possible, to really let the flavors blend!
